While the risk to Wyoming residents remains low, the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) has announced that it is becoming “increasingly likely” that the coronavirus – now officially named as COVID-19 – will spread to this state. The virus was first identified in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has now appeared in numerous countries across the world, including the United States. A UPS truck found itself in trouble on I-90 just outside Sundance on Thursday morning. The sizeable vehicle left its eastbound lane of travel and became lodged in the snow. All lanes were closed once rescue arrived and the truck was hauled back out onto the road. The crash occurred after several days of stormy weather, starting on Monday with two days of snowfall that saw 15 inches fall in Hulett, ten inches at Pine Haven and eight inches in Sundance. The Vore Buffalo Jump Foundation (VBJF) has funded internships for two University of Wyoming undergraduates for the spring semester of 2020. Interns Sierra Ferris and Xavier Michael-Young are aiding in curation of the collection of bison bones and other artifacts that have been excavated from the Vore archaeological site. This past week, the Wyoming Legislature worked hard (and late) to give fair consideration and debate to as many bills as possible. During the month of February, the pantry served approximately 167 people. This included five new clients, 59 under the age of 18 and 37 over the age of 60. Items needed this month include peanut butter, jelly and dry pastas. These items may be dropped off in donation boxes in Sundance at the Crook County Library, 414 E Main St, and the lobby of the school district’s Central Administration Offices at 122 Hwy 585. Michelle Hunt has been sentenced on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and breach of peace following an incident in which she allegedly attacked another Hulett resident with a piece of lumber. As part of the plea agreement, a felony charge of aggravated assault and battery and a misdemeanor charge of interference with a police officer were both dropped. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Robert Miller, a Colorado man who was arrested in Moorcroft last year for attempting to sell marijuana to a pair of homeowners – and then to a police officer. Miller failed to appear in District Court earlier this month for sentencing. Miller was set to be sentenced after pleading guilty to one felony count of possession of a controlled substance.
