  • Uprooting offices

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jan 23, 2020

The next phase of the renovation project has begun in the county courthouse, with the County Clerk’s staff playing a temporary game of musical chairs while work takes place in their office. If you’re looking to register as a voter or file a title, for the time being you’ll need to head to the commissioners’ room instead. The staff moved into their new digs last week as Maintenance Foreman Larry Schommer began the process of remodeling the clerk’s office, removing all the furnishings and teari...

  • Driskill weighs in on budget session

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jan 23, 2020

There’s good news and bad news about the upcoming 2020 Legislative Session, says Senator Ogden Driskill. On the one hand, the state’s budget seems to be on track; on the other, there are funding disasters for education looming just the other side of the horizon. “Our budget this year is pretty close to being balanced on the general fund side. The governor brought a budget that actually left a little bit of money on the table and Appropriations has actually left it with a little more on the t...

  • Statewide initiative tackles medical oxygen fire deaths

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jan 23, 2020

Over the last year, more than half the deaths caused by fires in residential structures in Wyoming have taken place in homes that use medical oxygen. The Wyoming Community Risk Reduction Initiative, otherwise known as 307 CRR, is looking to combat this problem and “get ahead of the call” in a new initiative for Community Risk Reduction Week. “At the state fire marshal’s conference, the group from the fire marshal’s office and a number of fire departments…set up a program for community risk reduction,” says Sundance Fire Marshal Chris Tomford...

  • Assessor's Office certified for 2020

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jan 23, 2020

The Wyoming Department of Revenue has once again certified three members of staff from the Crook County Assessor’s Office. It’s not actually a state requirement for the whole office to be certified, but County Assessor Theresa Curren has made it her goal for every employee to achieve that status. “It’s important for all of us to know what we’re doing when we’re assessing everybody’s property,” is Curren’s view. She believes the certification process teaches the ethics of the job as well as th...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jan 23, 2020

It’s been all over the news for the last week, so I’m sure you know by now that everyone’s favorite prince has flipped the bird to Queen and country and fled for the safety of Canada. Or, to set aside the histrionics, that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be stepping back from their royal duties and splitting their time between Britain and North America. You might be wondering why the reaction has been so extreme. Even my mild-mannered mother was livid and, if you haven’t managed to forget Pi...
